On September 12, 2023, our Risk Control System detected anomalous withdrawals from several hot wallet addresses used for temporary storage of user assets on CoinEx exchange. Promptly recognizing the gravity of the situation, we immediately established a special investigative team to delve into the matter. It is currently preliminarily determined that the cause of the incident was the leakage of the hot wallet private key. The investigation and processing work is proceeding in an orderly manner, and we will continue to update the relevant progress in this announcement.
The attack mainly involves crypto assets such as BTC, ETH, XRP, BCH, SOL, etc., and the specific values are still being liquidated. The assets in CoinEx cold wallet have not been affected by this incident. We will announce more relevant information about this attack through CoinEx official channels as soon as possible.

Latest Progress
Currently, CoinEx has taken the following measures:
1. Sep 12: Emergency shutdown of hot wallet servers and suspension of deposit and withdrawal services for all coins on the platform.
2. Sep 12: Timely transfer of remaining assets from the hacked hot wallet to secure addresses.
3. Sep 12: Investigation into this incident led by wallet team and security team, based on collected information and leads.
4. Sep 13: Reaching out to exchanges and wallets in assistance of freezing associated accounts related to the hacking incident.
5. Sep 13: Communicating with users by opening channels to address concerns.
6. Sep 14: Detailed disclosure of stolen assets and follow-up arrangements.
7. Sep 15: Actively engaged with the community to answer questions.
8. Sep 14-21: Completing wallet system reconstruction.
9. Sep 21: Resuming deposit and withdrawal services for 10 mainstream cryptos, including BTC, ETH, USDT, USDC, etc., with new deposit addresses.
CoinEx solemnly promises that users’ assets have NOT been, and will NOT be affected in this attack, and the CoinEx User Asset Security Foundation will bear the financial losses from this incident.
Wallet Service Recovery Plan
So far, CoinEx has resumed deposit and withdrawal services for 190 cryptocurrencies, including BTC, ETH, USDT, and USDC.
The wallet system is operating safely and steadily at present. We will gradually resume deposit and withdrawal services for the remaining 500+ cryptos. Since the resuming operations will be processed frequently, there will be no further or separate announcements for each crypto. Please note that new deposit addresses will be generated for every user, and all previous old deposit addresses will NO LONGER be valid. Please DO NOT use any old deposit addresses you may have saved - The old addresses will be NO LONGER valid and assets sent to them will be permanently lost. Please be sure to double-check that you are using the new address before depositing.
